The sizing chart is as follows, and implies a healthy weight.

        Kitten: 12-16 weeks, or up to 6 Lbs.

        Small: 6-8 months, or between 6-8 Lbs.

        Medium: 9+ months, or between 9-13 Lbs

        Large: over 14 Lbs.

An accurately fitting cap is described as sliding on like a glove. Being excessively tight or loose can allow the caps to fall off prematurely.

The link below will take you to a chart where you can compare your dogs nail with the actual size of the caps. Match up the dog’s nail to the outside edge of the shaded areas to determine sizing. This is the downloadable version of the size chart and should be printed out to obtain accurate c omparison. Weight is still a very good way to determine size, so use both, and contact us if you have any questions.

X-Small - Weight: 1-5 lbs.

Small - Weight: 5-10 lbs.

Medium - Weight: 10-15 lbs.

Large - Weight: 15-20 lbs.

X-Large - Weight: 20-40 lbs.

XX-Large - Weight: 40-70 lbs.

Jumbo - Weight: 70 pounds and up. (About the same claw circumference as a number two pencil.)

Begin by sliding on a cap without adhesive to assure you have the correct size. Next, trim the tip of the claw, avoiding trimming into the body of the claw. Place a few drops of adhesive in the cap, squeezing it between your fingers gently to evenly distribute the adhesive. Extend the claw forward with your thumb, as far as is comfortable for the cat. Generally the nail caps fall off in about 4-6 weeks with the natural shedding of your cats claws. If they do not fall off, you will want to remove them by 8 weeks of wear. First, trim the tip of the cap off, just like you would trim the nails. Apply gentle pressure to the upper rim of the cap, and they should pop right off.

Another way to remove the nail caps is to trim away small amounts of the top part of the nail cap so that basically you “butterfly” the nail cap open. Trimming away the top ridge will allow you to peel open the cap and remove it from the nail. If you haven’t already done so, trim the tip of the nail cap first then start on trimming the top ridge, trimming lengthwise. Trim just small amounts of the cap away so you are basically “whittling” the nail cap away. Don’t trim into the nail. Some of our customers have told us that cuticle trimmers or smaller nail trimmers work well.
